Being able to analyze your website’s traffic is key element for any serious Internet marketer.  Unfortunately, many services that offer tracking cost money.  They may allow you to try them out for free initially, but as your traffic grows you will have to pay a fee.  Yet, there are some web hosting companies that provide tracking as part of their hosting services.  In fact, there are even free web hosting companies that will provide tracking services.

So, what can you expect if you use your web hosting company to track your website’s traffic?  It will ultimately depend on the type of web hosting package you ordered.  If you didn’t get a web hosting package with a marketing plan, most likely you will get rudimentary traffic services.  This means you’ll get updates on how many hits your site is receiving.  More elaborate traffic services will allow you to the venues through which people are accessing your site.  You will also get a chance to analyze traffic data.  For example, you can see which pages are generating the most traffic for you.

When is it best to upgrade to a better tracking package?  This will depend on your marketing efforts.  If you tend to market through just one venue at a time, you probably can use simple tracking services to determine your website’s performance.  Otherwise, consider upgrading once your site gets more popular.
