Your Webhost Needs Capacity

June 2nd, 2010 by Hosting Guru · No Comments

Many people dive into the Internet and are filled with eagerness and excitement to build their own website. Problem with most of these people is that they don’t really know what is required to setup a successful and usable website. One of the most overlooked and an important aspect of starting a web hosting service is choosing the proper web hosting company. You need to web host that has the capacity to provide you with the following features: speed, space, quality and usability and trust.

Speed is determined by bandwidth which is basically the amount of data that may be transmitted in a given time interval and is usually measured in bits/second. Do you sometimes wonder why sometimes one site enables you to download files quicker than another? Well the reason being the faster downloading site has a greater bandwidth. The average Internet user usually spends only 10 secs on your site before they give it a quick opinion and go onto the next site. If in these 10 secs you site takes ages to load its pictures or files then you are most likely going to lose this customer. So remember, the greater the bandwidth the faster your website will load and in return the much more likely a visitor will stay on your website.

Space refers to the amount of disk storage available from your web host. Ask yourself: How much space do you require for your website? If you’re planning on having an online store with hundreds of products, you are going to need a lot more space for your pictures. If you’re only planning to have a small website of about 10 pages then you would not have to be worrying so much about space capacity and limitations of your hosting plan. Some web hosting servers companies, however, do provide unlimited storage space.

The quality of a web host can sometime be seen in the network uptime guarantee. Network uptime refers to the amount of time that your website is accessible via the world wide web. The majority of the popular and larger web hosting companies often guarantee a 99% uptime, meaning that your site is available around the world 24/7, 99% of times. Look to see if the company backs their claims up with a guarantee and if they have any compensation or backup for when there servers are down.

The usability that i’m referring to that is an important feature is the kind of control panel the web hosting company uses. I have a used a few different hosting companies and have found that cpanel is easiest to use. It has a simple to operate graphical interface and enables you to have full control over your domain. Cpanel provides automation tools that are designed to simplify the website building process. There are more control panels available, some easier to use than others, but cpanel by far is among the more popular and easiest to use control panels.

Trust is important whether it be in a person, a business or a service. I often think a private business would be better when it comes to service and quality which is true generally as you tend to manage the same person constantly and build up a trust in them. On the internet though, you would have to go with the more popular web hosting company, one that has grown and built a good reputation of reliability and trust from its thousands of users. Read web hosting sites reviews and forums to get a perception of the most reliable and trusted web hosting company for you.

It is very important that you take the above factors into consideration. Some companies may offer you extras that will help you with your website setup such as unlimited bandwidth and space or prebuilt templates for you to use. Take everything into consideration - your websites are only good if you have a reliable, trusted and supportive web host.
